BCTF Health and Wellness supports teachers experiencing health challenges that may affect their ability to work. It provides confidential guidance, rehabilitation support and assistance with planning a safe and sustainable return to work.
The program works collaboratively with teachers, medical professionals, the school district and the local union to identify appropriate accommodations and supports. Its goal is to help members remain at work or return successfully while protecting their health, dignity and privacy.
Starling Minds is a confidential, online mental health and wellness program available to BCTF members. It offers self-guided tools, exercises and practical strategies to help manage stress, anxiety, depression and burnout while building resilience and healthier coping skills.
The BCTF Salary Indemnity Plan (SIP) provides short- and long-term disability benefits to eligible teachers who are unable to work because of illness or injury and have exhausted their sick leave. Funded through member contributions, the plan provides non-taxable salary and helps protect members’ pension contributions and BCTF membership while they are receiving benefits.
